The building of the former ‘Stasi Prison’ Bautzen II is now the site of the Bautzen Prison Memorial. This site commemorates the victims of the two Bautzen Prisons. In the Bautzen I and II prisons, people were incarcerated under inhuman conditions during the period of National Socialism, the Soviet occupation and also the SED dictatorship. The permanent exhibition at the museum documents the victims’ suffering and elucidates the political and historical context of the prison. In addition to the exhibitions, visitors may see the detention cells, the isolation tract and the exercise yards.
