Bautzen is home to a wide variety of important industries, ranging from mechanical engineering and vehicle construction through telecommunications technology to plastic production and processing. International firms such as Philips x-ray engineering, Bombardier Transportation, or the writing utensils firm, Edding, complement the many local construction and excellent craftwork industries. Bautzen has also established itself as an important location for future technology through new firms from innovative branches like information technology and data processing represented by Vodaphone and Sphairon Access Systems GmbH.

• Future-oriented development of trade and industry
  Bautzen has once again become an important economic centre. Our goal is to build on this basis and to further develop economic confidence in the area.

• Strengthening our position as a political, economic and cultural centre of the region
  Bautzen is already the administrative centre of the region with over 25 public and private institutions. Its central importance in the regional city network will continue to grow through cooperation with the cities of Goerlitz and Hoyerswerda.

• Expanding tourism
  As a result of strong investment in the tourist infrastructure the number of tourists who stay for several days in our region has significantly increased. Facilities for holding events and congresses have also improved. Constructing a leisure park next to the Spree reservoir in Bautzen will strengthen the significance of tourism for the city’s economic development. The living culture and language of the Sorbian Nation, the painstakingly restored historic city centre and the varied, attractive countryside make our town exceptionally inviting.
